drive-in movies – C21 style

Although this might look like it’s drifting away from live performance somewhat, bear with me…

For a couple of years now I’ve been intrigued by the idea of portable audiovisual units and the MobMov manaifesto sets out one way of making those dreams into reality.

I loved the idea of showing old cartoons from the Internet Archive, and thought that they could easily be interspersed with live performances (fire or light – juggling, staffwork, flaming hula-hoops, you get the idea). I just need a powerful projector, an FM transmitter, an inverter and a decent power source… apart from that I’m all set.

Of course, there’s nothing to say you couldn’t add a video camera and project a live performance on the screen too – it would be much more effective than the traditional shouting, whistling and bagpipe playing that precedes your typical circle show.
